Interesting facts
There are several likely places where this beverage came from. The first was a news article from the Philadelphia (PA) Inquirer on October 3, 1915, which stated that the head bartender at The Racquet Club made it in honor of the Philadelphia pitcher, Grover Cleveland Alexander (1887-1950). As an alternative, Troy Alexander, a bartender at the pre-Prohibition New York lobster restaurant Rector's, is credited with creating the Alexander cocktail. Troy allegedly did this for a dinner celebrating a successful advertising campaign.
History of the drink
The Alexander cocktail has been a traditional libation for more than a century. Gin, Crème de Cacao and heavy cream are the main ingredients of the Alexander. Typically, it is offered in a Martini glass. The oriGinal Alexander calls for equal amounts of Gin, Crème de Cacao and cream, but our version is a bit softer. The first mention of the drink was published in Hugo Ensslin's 1916 book, Recipes for Mixed Drinks. So, its believed to have been created sometime in the early Twentieth Century.
