Interesting Facts

The Flying Dutchman, or ‘De Vliegende Hollander’ in Dutch is a fabled ghost ship that’s destined to travel the seas forever and is unable to dock.

History of the Drink

The Flying Dutchman Cocktail is a drink shrouded in mystery, with its oriGins as elusive as the legendary ghost ship it is named after. The first known publication of the recipe can be traced back to September 1950, when it was included in a rare Dutch cocktail book called the Internationale Cocktailgids (International Cocktail Guide). The author of the book, Willem Slagter is generally considered in the Netherlands as the authentic creator of The Flying Dutchman Cocktail. However, factual historical evidence to support this claim has yet to be found.
