History of the Drink
The São Paulo state countryside is where the name Caipirinha, which means "country little girl," originated. There are several origin myths. One suggests that in the early twentieth century, a mixture of cachaça, lime, honey, and garlic was commonly consumed. This concoction eventually made its way to the port of Santos, where it earned the name "Caipirinha" due to its major component, cachaça, which typically came from Piracicaba in the São Paulo hinterland.
