History of the drink
The ever-popular Gin and Tonic (or G&T) has an often-debated history. Some say the cocktail was introduced by British army officers in India in the 1800s, where the quinine found in tonic water was used in the treatment of malaria. Soldiers in India took to adding a mixture of water, sugar, lime and gin to the quinine to make the drink more palatable, and so the gin and tonic was born! Today the cocktail is so popular that October 19th is celebrated as International Gin & Tonic Day.
